DUETS

Five years ago, I hit on the idea of recording duets on piano and vibes, with me playing both instruments. The result was an album entitled DUETS, in which I take some real pride.

We recorded it in the living room of our apartment where both the Steinway B piano and Musser vibes reside (as well as five vocal dogs who had to be quarantined in the bedroom during recording sessions). My valued colleague, Raymond, mastered the complexities of recording and meshing several tracks on his laptop computer to achieve the necessary overlapping effect of a duet. (We also had a low level bass and drums accompaniment in the background from an iPad app – you can hear it if you listen hard.)

We did 17 tunes, all favorites of mine from the swing era of the ‘30s and ‘40s, composed by fine songwriters such as Jerome Kern and Jimmy Van Heusen.

I’ve selected a half-dozen of them to add to my Blog Music section:

 All the Things You Are

Willow Weep for Me

Easy Living

Imagination

The Night We Called it a Day

A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square

The six songs are on separate tracks. Click on the play button of each track to listen to that song.

I hope you enjoy this. If you would like to have the original album (which also contains detailed liner notes about the songs and how we went about making the duet recording), email me your mailing address and I’ll send you one (no charge, of course).
