OLD FOLK MEDLEY

In 2006 I recorded an album titled OLD FOLK – a piano tribute to America’s folk songs. It contained 72 songs (which was my age at the time) that capture our rich musical heritage.

For years, I’d been playing many of these songs on a harmonica (where they fit right in), and in September 2022 made a blog entry of eight of them (four by Stephen Foster) that included harmonica segments in duets overdubbed with the piano.

This time, I’ve selected for the blog from the many other tracks on the album 21 favorites of mine – folk songs not generally as well-known to the current public as, say, the Foster songs, or Dixie, The Yellow Rose of Texas and such. Try to guess their names as you listen to them. After each song I’ll provide its name, and a total listing can be found in the liner notes you can access below. Click on the Play button to listen to this medley.
