CHRISTMASTIME IN NYC

Another December in the Big Apple, and what better way to symbolize the scene than this view of the big red ball on 6th Avenue, looking across to the Radio City Music Hall where those fabulous Rockettes are featured in their seasonal delight.

More big red balls, shaped in pyramid style.

Another scene from 6th Avenue, highlighting those colorful guardsmen.

On the way home in a car from her office, my wife Barbara snapped this huge tree at night, plus a close-up of the big red balls – then over to
5th Avenue for a dramatic shot of Cartier.

Speaking of luxurious shopping on 5th Avenue, here’s Bergdorf Goodman and its imaginative window.

Outside Bergdorf there’s an active market on the street. As for the bottom shot, I don’t know the women, but she was standing in front of this imaginative display and I was in a moving car and had to snap fast.

These were also taken from a car on 5th Avenue, heading toward the big mid-street snowflake and then down to the yule-adorned lion on its pedestal outside the NY Public Library.

Behind the Library is Bryant Park, which features a host of food, tables,
and other sights every year –

– as well as a popular skating rink.

This symbolizes leaving Fifth and heading over to Madison Avenue
(behind St. Peter’s Cathedral).

There’s some good stuff on the side streets as well as the avenues,
as exhibited here –

– and here –

– and especially here.

My driver Gent next swung down past Herald Square
for some familiar sights of Macy’s.

Now we’re at Hudson Yards.
And here’s one of my favorite shots that I took
at that relatively new NYC fixture.

Hudson Yards also displays some balloon-shaped decorations and
red plantings.

Now we’re headed to Rockefeller Center,
the heart of NYC sightseeing at Yuletide.

The familiar sight of the majestic tree, the famed Poseidon statue,
and the skaters.

Here’s a shot of the tree-top and also a closeup of the decorations
on the tree.

The ageless angels of Rockefeller Plaza, which a sculptor in my father’s firm was responsible for almost 70 years ago.

More of the Plaza and that big clock on the façade of Saks Fifth Avenue.

And here’s the Christmas tree and Menorah in the lobby
of the building in which we live.

I was not able to get out to Brooklyn’s Dyker Heights colorful Xmas show this year, but Gent did and snapped these three pix. I did visit this cornucopia seven years ago, and you can see the slideshow results (as well as hear my piano rendition of Pete Seeger’s Bells of Rhymny) by clicking the Play button on the video below.
