DECKED OUT FOR HALLOWEEN During the week prior to Halloween this year, I toured the side streets of Manhattan’s Upper East Side to observe how some townhouse owners had prepared for the late October event. What follows are the scary results. As you come down the street, your first glimpse is of some buildings decorated on an overall basis . . . . . . . and these even more notable specimens. But this singular offering especially caught my eye. (As for this particular house, no scary specimens were needed to add to what was reportedly going on inside some years back . . . but that’s all I have to say on that score . . . .) Now, my camera lens gets in closer to focus on an array of grisly characters extending greetings to visitors. More of the same. (I was especially taken with the handsome character at the lower right.) This grouping adds some color to the mix . . . . . . and these beauties may top the rest. Now we’ve gone in still closer, so as to emphasize the menacing faces. These are a few of the best (uh, I mean, worst). Check those top two snaps closely to see what’s up (uh, down). Here are some real weirdo’s . . . . . . and two that are even scarier. Outsized spiders were big this year. . . . . . . and this array is even more imaginative. But the dominant adornments at many locations were a broad variety of skeletons. Just look at these imaginative effigies (such as the top left). Here are three of the most unusual. Well, what do you know, my colleague Gent has formed a new friendship. This is where skeletons and aggressive pumpkins unite. I was taken by the bright colors that mark these specimens. And, by golly, there were even a few non-human versions. I think this is a fitting ending for the Halloween décor . . . . . . . . and now, on to Thanksgiving!
