ORCHID SHOW
The annual Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden – currently in its 20th year – is on display until April 23rd. I took the photos in this portfolio during the 2019 show.

A little Botanical Garden warm-up before getting to the main event.

♪ “You make me feel so young . . .” ♫

I was unaware of this annual photography bonanza until Tina Ravitz, a friend and fellow photographer, introduced me to it that year. It's well worth attending.

The 2019 show was housed in the Enid Annenburg Haupt Conservatory.

We now step inside to where the beautiful flowers reside –
And it’s this kind of sight that greets you.

Some additional yellow blooms.

My horticultural knowledge is minimal. Tina has been helpful in naming some of these floral offerings, such as this shrimp plant (left) and jester tulips (right).

The orchids (above the tulips) are called dancing ladies.
Switching now to white and featuring first a water lily.

All orchids.

All orchids.

All orchids.
A red tulip leads the way to more colorful displays.

In the center is a bromeliad, which is all I know about this threesome.

Tulips and a jester tulip.

All orchids.
And here’s a purple member of the tribe.

All orchids.

All orchids.

A touch of pink orchids.

That’s a bird of paradise at top left, but I haven’t been able to identify the other two.

A montage of greenery.

Orchids on the left, succulents on the right.

“Sausage-shaped” succulents.

Now we’re getting into the cactus area.

Cactus.

More cactus.

These two succulents really caught my eye.
And I’ll close with my favorite of all these images – a bona fide orchid.
