A Platinum Jubilee for the Songs of ‘52
Looking back 70 years from 2022, I can clearly see that 1952 played a large role in my life. This was the year I graduated from high school, began college, drove around the country during the summer in between, and turned 18.
And – for me, at least – it was a year in which some memorable popular songs were written or revived. In recent years, I’ve recorded eight of these ’52 hits, and my June blog entry are those recordings in the following order:
1. Lullaby of Birdland
2. Everything I Have is Yours
3. Walkin’ My Baby Back Home
4. Guess Who I Saw Today
5. Just When We’re Falling in Love
6. That’s All
7. Why Try to Change Me Now
8. When I Fall in Love
## 4 and 7 have just me on piano. I’m joined on bass by Dmitri Kolesnik for ## 1,5 and 8. Annette Sanders scats above my keyboard on #2. And my singalong chorus from Hamilton and Goddard-Riverside senior centers adds the lyrics to ##3 and 6.
I hope you’ll enjoy this 15 minute platinum jubilee of 1952 hits.
