SOME MORE GREAT SONGS OF 1934

In 2008, I recorded a piano album titled 34 from ’34. The year 1934, although smack in the middle of the Great Depression, was a prime year for American popular music, featuring songs written by many of our leading composers. It was also the year in which I was born.

I selected a dozen of the 34 songs for my August 2022 musical blog entry. Now, in July 2024, I’m celebrating my 90th birthday, so I’ve selected an additional 10 songs from that album, written by leading composers such as Cole Porter and Harold Arlen. Here they are, in the order they appear in the blog:

1.     You’re the Top

2.     The Very Thought of You

3.     Blame it on My Youth

4.     A Hundred Years from Today

5.     Cocktails for Two

6.     Easy Come, Easy Go

7.     Let’s Take a Walk Around the Block

8.     What a Difference a Day Made

9.     Love is Just Around the Corner

10.  Stars Fell on Alabama.

You can access this 17 minute medley by clicking on the play button below.

Additional information on the songs (and a list of the songs from ’34 on the prior August 2022 blog entry) is contained in a liner notes pdf, which you can access (before, after, or while listening to the songs) by clicking on this link.
