SONGS OF 1924-1933

Next month, I’m going to feature the songs of 1934, the year I was born. So this month, I decided to give you a taste of what exciting things were happening in popular music during the prior decade – the songs of 1924-1933. This is when Tin Pan Alley really hit its stride, and you’ll hear many of our most celebrated composers and lyricists.

I’ve selected one song from each of those years – songs that I’ve recorded, featuring the wonderful professional vocalist Annette Sanders, with myself on the keys, Dmitri Kolesnik on bass, plus on three of the numbers special guest Warren Chiasson on vibes.

Here are the songs, in the order they appear:

1924 – The One I Love Belongs to Somebody Else

1925 – I’m Sitting on Top of the World

            1926 – ‘Deed I Do

            1927 – Blue Skies

            1928 – I Can’t Give You Anything But Love

            1929 – Mean to Me

            1930 – Fine and Dandy

1931 – Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams

            1932 – Isn’t it Romantic

            1933 – I’ve Got the World on a String

I hope you enjoy this 32 minute medley, which you can access by clicking on the play button below.

Additional information on the songs is contained in a liner notes PDF, which you can access (before, after, or while listening to the songs) by clicking on this link.
