THE LOVELY VOICE OF NITA SIM

During the two decades that I led weekly group singalongs at Manhattan’s Hamilton Senior Center, the outstanding soloist in the group was a lovely and personable woman named Nita Sim. Her exceptional voice, singing a wide range of selections, “brought down the house” every Tuesday. She is also a quite intelligent, articulate and dedicated woman, active in supporting worthwhile causes.

Although from the Philippines, Nita has now lived in the United States for almost a half-century. She has performed in opera, soloed with leading Philippine conductor-composers, and had a solo concert in Carnegie Hall.

The years have dealt kindly with Nita’s vocal prowess, and so, to memorialize for all time the splendid musicality of her voice, I decided in 2017 to make an album of her singing, with me at the piano. I’ve selected a half-dozen fine songs from that album for this blog entry, which I hope you’ll enjoy.

The songs are (in the order they appear)

1.     Over the Rainbow

2.     If I Loved You

3.     You’ll Never Walk Alone

4.     La Vie En Rose

5.     Smoke Gets in Your Eyes

6.     The Lord’s Prayer
