WHEN I’M 64 MEDLEY
Back in 1998, when I turned 64, I decided to make an album using the Beatles “When I’m 64” hit as the title. That was 25 years ago.
The Jim Freund Trio recorded that album early the next year, and it has remained at the top of my all-time personal list. Two of my favorite musicians – Andrei Ryabov on guitar and Dmitri Kolesnik on bass – covered up the deficiencies in my piano and voice on 21 jazz-flavored standards.
So now, I want to celebrate this Silver Anniversary by selecting eight of our best CD tracks – I picked the ones with the strongest rhythm, which never flags – as my blog’s musical offering this March. The songs (in order presented) are:
1. My Shining Hour
2. I Thought About You
3. Oh Look at Me Now
4. When I’m 64
5. Lulu’s Back in Town
6. Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off
7. On a Slow Boat to China
8. Come Dance with Me
I hope you’ll enjoy this 24-minute musical trip back to the days when melody, chords and lyrics (in addition to rhythm) really mattered.
