CT Early Spring 2021

Early Spring in CT.

The sprouts come up in early April –

– and get more interesting every week.

The hyacinths are keeping Fido company.

While I was examining the greenery climbing up the stone wall –

– Oops! That’s not flora – just the submerged cache of our golden retriever, revealed as winter recedes.

The flowers are becoming prettier –

– and in all shades.

I take these speckles as a sign that something good is on the way.

A satisfying macro shot.

There’s a message here – perhaps it’s the comfortable juxtaposition of the very old and the very new.

Here’s our flowering weeping willow treat that we look forward to every spring.

Another view.

These next four shots contain some good stuff.

Here, it’s the shadows on the grass cast by the blossoms that make this picture work.

A small strand of forsythia by the water.

Some serious forsythia is framing this driveway.

To emphasize the yellow of forsythia, I usually look for a dark-colored background, such as this maroon barn.

But then one day I braked the car and grabbed my camera when encountering yellow on yellow.

These next four shots were taken in the historic section of Fairfield.

The foreground flowers signify the season at the local church.

Signs of spring outside the cemetery –

– and with these buds really catching my eye.

One of my favorite local trees –

– and a close-up of its aged trunk.

It’s early spring above the second floor veranda of our home.

Azaleas thrive just outside our tennis court –

– and from this angle, those azaleas intersect with the flowering weeping willow.

One day I made a visit to the fine little zoo in Bridgeport.

These prairie dogs were waiting for me –

– in black & white also.

The noble bald eagle –

– in close-up.

Three shots of a delightful otter.

A South American version of the emu.

Check out this stretched leopard –

– and here, head-on.

This guy is not what I’d call handsome –

– not even up close in black & white.

But the tiger is a beauty –

– even in black & white –

– and especially up close.

These spider monkeys provide free geometry lessons –

– and charm a youthful spectator.

Here are two more black & white shots by the water.

Back to the familiar church –

– and also the one in historic Fairfield.

I couldn’t resist including this shot of our Stella in a pensive mood.

This shot of hammock and supporting trees in our backyard is my favorite black & white photo in the portfolio.
